Sought after and proven: the 3,000th CBS

32 t of concentrated extinguishing power: This is how the Universal Firefighting Vehicle (ULF) that has been in operation at the Infraserv Höchst plant fire department (near Frankfurt) for the past few weeks, can be described. Rosenbauer's strongest centrifugal pump, two independently operable foam proportioning systems, and a total of 20 pressure outlets ensure that maximum extinguishing power is available in case of emergency.

Not only do its features make the ULF 3000/4000/750/180 special: It is also the 3,000th vehicle made by Rosenbauer in the CBS design (Customized Body System). This modular body concept makes it possible to build and equip firefighting vehicles to the exact requirements of the customer. In this particular case, the Infraserv Höchst factory fire department has had one idea in particular: The new ULF should be ready for any industrial fire, since it is used in a 4.6 km2 industrial park, where mainly chemical industry companies are located. There are two fire stations on site, so that each point within the plant site can be reached within five minutes. Four industrial firetrucks, seven device trucks, two aerials and numerous roll-out containers can be deployed in case of emergency. And there are many deployments: The 115 professional firefighters are alerted about 1,000 times each year.

Power meets flexibility

The equipment of the new ULF fully meets the requirements of the operational area: At the heart of the firefighting equipment is the N100 centrifugal pump and two independently operable foam proportioning systems. With up to 10,000 l/min at 10 bar of tank suction operation, and up to 14,000 l/min at 5 bar at the inlet, the N100 is the most powerful centrifugal pump from Rosenbauer. The industrial foam proportioning system HYDROMATIC can flexibly supply 16 discharge outlets (8 on each side of the vehicle) with water or a foam-water mixture. The proportioning ratio can be steplessly adjusted between 1% and 7%, even during operation. Thanks to the power of the pump and the proportioning system, all eight delivery outlets on each vehicle side can be supplied with 1,200 l / min, likewise also both the two roof turrets (RM15 and RM25). In deployment, these hoses can be coupled on only one side of the vehicle. On the one hand, this provides the advantage that one can work perfectly well in tight spaces, and on the other, it prevents the crossing of hoses and need to go around the vehicle.

Foam, wetting agent, powder or CO2

In addition to the HYDROMATIC, a DIGIMATIC 42 direct injection foam proportioning system is also installed in combination with the compressed air foam system  CONTI CAFS WR 30 . In a separate mixing chamber, CAFS foam is generated through the addition of compressed air, which achieves excellent throw ranges and adherence to smooth surfaces. A wetting agent (non-foamed water) can also be generated with it. The ULF is ready immediately for a comprehensive first attack thanks to its extinguishing media loading. Vast amounts of foam can be produced with the 3,000 l water and two 2,000 l foam tanks. In addition, 750 kg of dry powder and 180 kg of CO2 are on board.

The ULF is one of the first vehicles in Europe to be built on a Mercedes-Benz Antos with Tridem rear axle. With spray hose reels that are pneumatically lowered, the extinguishing giant is 12 m long. The 510 HP not only ensure appropriate drive power; two auxiliary outlets of the engine supply the N100 centrifugal pump and the HYDROMATIC proportioning system. The two roof turrets can be controlled by remote control. In addition, the ULF features a rapid intervention hose reel for powder, an extendable light mast (FLEXILIGHT LED), a traffic-directing device on the rear, and a reversing camera.

With the combination of powerful pump and powerful mixing systems, the Infraserv Höchst factory fire department has a vehicle available that is not only capable of providing large amounts of extinguishing agent in a short time. Thanks to the flexibility of the systems, it can react according the demanding challenges of the industrial park.
