IFAT 2016: May 30 - June 3, Munich/Germany

IFAT is the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste, and raw materials management and takes place from May 30 - June 3, 2016 at Messe München in Munich, Germany.
 
In 2014, almost 3,000 exhibitors from 59 countries used the opportunity to present their companies and products to an international audience. Over 135,000 visitors came to the last IFAT to find out about the latest trends in the area of waste and raw materials management. With an exhibition area of 230,000 m², IFAT 2016 is not only the most important trade fair but also the world's largest trade fair in this industrial sector.

Fire protection in the recycling industry

Fire protection is a very important topic, especially in the waste management industry, as fires in recycling systems could have devastating consequences. In the waste bunkers, sorting systems and waste recycling plants of the waste management industry, for the most part large quantities of waste are stored as well as processed. This poses several risks: many materials are highly flammable. Because of the large volume the fire load is correspondingly large. In recycling plants there is also the danger of spontaneous combustion. And last but not least, there are special challenges with regards to fire protection, such as conveyor belts, for instance, which transport waste in the plants. In the event of a fire, enormous expenses will accrue due to manufacturing downtime and reconstruction. Without preventative fire protection, it could also be the case that no adequate insurance coverage is provided. Waste fires often also pose an environmental risk.
