New FOX with new engine

Rosenbauer presents fourth generation of the successful portable fire pump

  • Highest flow rate – even in relay and pumping operation
  • Newly developed pump according to PFPN 10/1500 in accordance with EN 14466
  • Excellent carrying comfort and simplified operation

Rosenbauer presents the new FOX portable fire pump at Retter 2016 in Wels, the premium Austrian trade fair for safety and emergency response organizations. It's already the fourth generation of the globally successful pump, which first came on the market in 1987 and since then has sold more than 18,000 units. The portable fire pump is the basic unit par excellence for many fire departments. That's because of the qualities of the all-rounder: it is a classic firefighting pump, essential for relay operation and is also often used for pumping out water. The new FOX delivers performance data in every operational scenario, which are obvious: as PFPN 10-1500 (Portable Fire Pump Normal pressure) it exceeds the nominal output of 1,500 l/min at 10 bar required by the standard and delivers up to 1,650 l/min. With an output point of 1,000 l/min at 15 bar, it is perfectly suited for efficient water delivery over long distances. And when it is deployed in free discharge operation, the new FOX reaches an output of 2,100 l/min at 4 bar (all previous data at three metres suction lift) or 2,250 l/min at 3 bar (and 1.5 m suction lift).

Ergonomic design

The portable fire pump, which has been redeveloped from top to bottom also sets benchmarks in the areas of carrying and operating comfort. With a weight of 166 kg (operationally-ready according to EN 14466) it only weighs a bit more than the FOX S, but with a much higher output. The combination of ergonomic handles and a narrow design – at 636 mm the FOX S and new FOX are the same width – allows the unit to be carried over long distances without fatigue. The optional carrying frame lighting also ensures excellent view of the ground, even at night.

Simple operation

Starting a FOX portable fire pump is very easy: set up - switch on (start engine) - ready. Priming takes place automatically at the press of a button. The priming pump automatically switches itself off when a minimum pressure is reached. A piston priming pump with electromagnetic coupling functions as the priming pump. Optionally available are a mechanical thermal protection and a pump pressure governor with integrated intake pressure monitoring system and cavitation warning, whereby the set discharge pressure can be permanently held constant regardless of the flow.

The FOX is operated via a control panel located centrally in the pump housing according to Rosenbauer control system LCS 2.0. It has backlit function keys and a clearly arranged LCD colour display, which displays all the information required for operation: engine speed, intake and discharge pressure, operating hours, battery voltage, cooling water temperature, fuel reserve. The speed can be finely adjusted via a rotary knob, an LED indicator displays the current throttle position. The operators receive information for operation and for troubleshooting via the display.

New competition mode

In addition, the new FOX can now also be operated in "Sport mode". This is interesting for all fire departments that want to take part in wet competitions with their portable fire pump. While the pump can be controlled very finely in normal operation, in competition mode everything is optimised for speed. And all in the fastest possible time.

New engine

The new FOX is driven by a 3-cylinder 4-stroke in-line engine with an output of 48 kW (65 hp). So the FOX S and the new FOX have a common technical base: both have an engine from BRP Rotax in Gunskirchen, both are largely identical in design. What has proven itself with the FOX S is also used in the FOX, whereby the Rosenbauer top portable fire pump could be optimised further both in performance and in weight. Even the sound pressure could be reduced further with the new exhaust gas system and the full engine cover (more than 4 dB compared to the predecessor model). Reliable technology without compromise: with the new FOX, Rosenbauer has proven its core competence for firefighting pumps once more. It can be ordered right now and will be delivered from the 2nd quarter of 2017.
