By now it is common knowledge that airport fire brigades have special requirements when it comes to their vehicles, but this vehicle – or rather this pair of vehicles (yes, two identical vehicles were delivered) – particularly stands out within this firefighting sector.

After the order had been placed, in the initial talks with those responsible at Hamburg Airport, one thing became clear: the new HLF 40 needed to be identical to its predecessor vehicle (also an AT) in terms of fabrication, but adapted to the airport’s new and additional requirements.

Of course, the first things that will catch your attention are the extraordinary decals across the vehicle, which are pretty unique. But upon closer inspection it also becomes clear that the vehicle is fitted with an extensive range of special equipment. The 18-ton MAN with its 320 hp can transport its crew as well as 4,000 liters of water and 200 liters of foam quickly and safely to the scene of the emergency. Upon arrival, the extinguishing agent can be directly and quickly delivered via the RM 15 front-mounted monitor. The vehicle’s extinguishing concept consists of a Rosenbauer N35 with a DIGIMATIC 42 foam pressure proportioning system.

The vehicle is designed for building fire protection and also for flight-related emergencies. An ideal all-round vehicle tailored to the needs of the airport was created together with the customer through multiple meetings and telephone conversations. The two vehicles have been in operation since summer 2019.
