| EMEREC – “Information management for operational staff" |
|
|
| Clear-cut information for targeted decisions during operations ...more |
The focus was on the topic of “Information management for operational staff½ September 17, 2009 at the heart of a large-scale exercise in the Noitzmühle tunnel on the A8 highway. In cooperation with our project partners the Austrian Professional Fire Department Association (Österreichischer Bundesfeuerwehrverband), the Upper Austrian University of Applied Science (Fachhochschule Oberösterreich, Campus Hagenberg), mobilkom austria and Siemens, ROSENBAUER developed an information system for mobile operation management in the scope of a research project. This system focuses on supporting leadership responsibilities of operational staff by improving networking and providing up-to-date information.
Presentation of the research project in the scope of a large-scale exercise
Led by the Wels volunteer fire department, the new system was introduced to a group of experts for the first time in the scope of the large-scale exercise. The exercise scenario in the Noitzmühle tunnel involved an accident situation with multiple vehicles. Rescuing of trapped persons and handling of hazardous materials were exercised in a lifelike environment with support from EMEREC.
Mobile system with user-friendly interface
The key to trouble-free handling of an operation is the type, quality and availability of the right information. Networking of mobile terminal devices with a centralized database with links to the primary operations control computer and other external systems (e.g. live video) form the basis of EMEREC. An integrated view of information relevant to the operation via a mobile PC ensures that operational staff has the same information status. The user-friendly system interface supports fast and intuitive access to geographical maps, fire protection plans, alarm plans, checklists, water plans, hazardous material data sheets, vehicle rescue maps, weather forecasts, the status of available rescue resources and many other things. Automatic system updates keep the information up-to-date and ensure its quality. This means that information is available from a single source at any time. The ability to integrate customer-specific data and information systems rounds off the individual operational scope of EMEREC.
Under the EMEREC umbrella, the results of the research project will be developed into a powerful system that will be available to fire departments starting in 2010.
